Established in 2008, U-Casadh (Casadh means to twist or turn in Irish) works with people 24 years and over who have experienced periods of imprisonment. U-Casadh works in partnership with Waterford Area Partnership, Probation Service, FÁS, VEC, DSFA and Waterford City Council.
U-Casadh offers appropriate practical support to re-intergrate ex-prisoners and also aims to access appropriate and useful training, education and development programmes through mediating and negotiating with existing services.
Participants are referred through 'Post-Release' prison services (majority of cases) and an individualised plan is drawn up with the person pre-release. Anyone with 8 to 9 months left on their sentence is visited 3 to 4 times pre-release and then a mentoring style approach is used on release to support the plan and their re-integration.
