Welcome to The U-Casadh Project

U-Casadh is a social enterprise and registered charity based on the border of Kilkenny and Waterford. Our vision is to be a catalyst for change in attitudes to crime, social exclusion, rehabilitation and justice throughout Ireland.

Mission Statement:
“To provide a quality support service for offenders, ex-offenders, those at risk of offending and their families, that will facilitate their full participation in community and economic life.”

U-Casadh - For a Change of Mind
The U-Casadh Project was established with the Waterford Area Partnership, an interagency approach and led out by a former prison officer Stephen Plunkett. Stephen had become disillusioned with seeing the same people coming through the 'revolving doors' of the prisons in which he worked (St. Patrick's Institute, Wheatfield and Clover Hill) and decided to work with people in the community and drive towards  providing them with "occupation and purpose" in order to reduce their chances of returning to prison.

The project was originally set up to work with ex-prisoners, 24 and over, and their families.  Since then, the project has broadened out its service provision through creating specialised programs for many groups. U-Casadh now provides specialised services through a Community Employment scheme, Roma mens program and a dedicated social enterprise (U-Casadh Solutions) to people over the age of 18, Some of the key agencies that refer into U-Casadh are the Probation Service, Drug Treatment Services, Homeless Services and the Integration and Support Unit among others.
We have a strong focus on Social Inclusion, through encouraging entrepreneurship - as the empowerment of self-employment removes many of the obstacles which many of the people who use our service encounter.

U-Casadh CLG is a registered charity and has developed its own social enterprise avenues, as well as supporting others to develop theirs.
